Kate Deffke - National Grassroots Group Research & Development

Kate Deffke works on outreach research. She's from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and graduated from Lock Haven University in PA. Being a westerner at heart, Kate fled PA before the ink could dry on her diploma ("mail it to me, I'm outta here") and went to Wyoming, where she worked in the oilfields, doing seismograph, that is, oil exploration. This work took her to most of the midwest and western states, often living in motels or camping and living out of a backpack. During those years, she crewed on a square rig sailboat in Key West and commercially fished for halibut in Alaska. Kate says, "those were the days when hitchhiking was a form of transportation, and I did it here and in Europe without a single problem."
Kate moved to Arizona in 1986 and found work at a weekly newspaper; her degree in Humanities/English was finally getting used. "I remember reading A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man during breaks, me being oilfield trash, and all. Weird."
During the '90s Kate owned a print shop in Page, AZ and sold it in 2000. Tucson is now home. "I love the Sonoran Desert and my barrio; their beauty, even after 12 years, will always amaze me."

Jon Snow - Twitter Specialist

Jon Snow has worked on many Twitter accounts, and his latest efforts on Twitter have been focused on supporting independent film.
Jon seeks out relationships for the filmmakers. These relationships become the foundation of his method on Twitter, and it is these relationships that command the respect and the attention of the film's intended audience. Jon vets potential partnerships with non-profits, groups, clubs, etc., to be sure that their message is congruent with the message of the film before engaging them in a potential relationship. Once he has determined that it could potentially be a symbiotic relationship, he then goes to work supporting them, their message and their cause, thereby laying the groundwork for reciprocation. Jon also finds those diamond individuals, the ones who hear the message of the film and become passionate about it, and he builds those relationships as well. He truly believes that just a few committed people make all the difference. Jon's approach is one of gratitude and helping others. He believes you should thank every single follower, and if we can support them, we support them. In the end, the Twitter gods smile, and a film creates a grassroots following with a powerfully measurable force that cannot be denied.
Jon splits his time between Canada and Los Angeles with his rescue dog, Molly.

Katherine Ann Bagby Underwood - Project Support & Social Media Specialist

Katherine Ann Bagby Underwood is a student, musician, and entrepreneur from Oakland, CA. Katherine, who also goes by Kat, is currently studying Business Administration - Marketing at San Francisco State University, and hopes that her major will strengthen her business skills and mindset, but also guide her towards opportunities to connect with other creative people and promote her solo and collaborative music. In her band, Mouthy Maidens, in her solo endeavors, Distracted Kat, and in a variety of projects for other people, she has applied her self-taught graphic design skills to building honest, custom brands. She is perhaps best known for using her artistic tendencies as excuses in procrastinating on homework and other academic priorities; tell her to write an essay and she will instead write a song or transform a pile of cloth into a book bag. Her outlook on life is that spontaneity disrupts deadlines but makes the product, cups of coffee and chai should grow on trees, and naps are the best medicine. Kat loves to dream, scheme, design, and create. You can find her in Peets, the art studio, or parked on the couch watching Netflix with knitting needles in hand.
